If you’re tired of the usual hikes around Kathmandu, I have for you a relatively lesser known trail that takes you to Bojini Dam. Bojini is an artificial dam near Kalamasi Village, located just nine kilometres from Kamalbinayak Pond, Bhaktapur. The dam, which was just a swamp a few years ago, is today a small, tranquil lake surrounded by pine forests and green meadows. Built by the locals of Kalamasi, the dam is slowly becoming a popular tourist destination for people who want a quick getaway from the city.

The place is easily accessible; a well-managed, metalled road takes you directly from Bhaktapur to Bojini Dam in less than an hour. You can go on your private vehicle, or choose to take local buses, which leave every 30 minutes from Kamalbinayak. The dam is located at a height that is almost the same as Nagarkot’s, making the place a wonderful sight-seeing destination. From the dam, you’ll have panoramic views of Banepa Bazaar, Kathmandu Valley, Chandragiri and the terraced fields of Kalamasi Village.

If you have time to spare, you can also visit Muhan Pokhari, a small pond located just a few kilometres away from the dam. You can also choose to spend the night at Nagarkot, which is just a 10-minute drive away.
